This work utilizes various expressions of the “golden ratio” ( 1 to 1.618) as structural elements in several aspects of the composition; form, rhythm, and timbre. These expressions can be heard at times as rhythmic groupings of Fibonacci numbers such as 1 - 1 - 2 - 3 - 5 - 7, where the ratio of adjacent numbers approximates the golden ratio. Throughout the piece, either Fibonacci numbers or ratios of durations (in seconds) govern the number of repetitions of certain figures.
Timbre is used to express the golden ratio through frequency modulation synthesis techniques in which the ratio of carrier to modulator frequency is the golden ratio.
Finally, the artwork in the video component of the work was created using several artificial intelligence algorithms to express the golden ratio, Fibonacci numbers including the “Fibonacci Spiral,” and fractal algorithms. These AI algorithms included OpenAI’s DALL-E 2, VQGAN+CLIP, Stable Diffusion, and CLIP-Guided Diffusion.
